May 2008, Lina Stefanou

“Now you have a face” were the first words that Lina Stefanou told me, when I first met her. Later on I realized that the root of this expression lies deep in her poetic speaking.

“The garden of Salamanders” is the title of her first poem collection.

Her poems express in a special way her thoughts, not only regarding everyday things but also important philosophical issues. They speak of life, death, love, sorrow, nostalgia for all that is lost…enveloped in an intangible veil of magic.

The words that she uses are lighted and obtain the importance that suits them as though they are born by an original poetic hand. Her poems tranquilize you at times, at times they travel you away, at times fill you up with thoughts and at times they fly high, very high and come to take a place straight in your heart.

Lina shares with us what she has experienced from her life journey until today transformed in poetry. Lina stands beside us as a valued friend and what is more important than that, for the poet to seek to play such a role?

“The garden of Salamanders” Poetry Lina Stefanou

----------

What happens when you die?
The glance is taken by the rain
The heron holds a piece in his mouth
And the soul spreads like a piece of cloth
Over those things you loved most

----------

Blue took a sponge of light and erased my words…

--------------

I got used to having a profession all these years
and now without it
it is difficult to say who I am.
Without it – in their eyes -
invisible
- only an outline that awaits
to materialize at any moment.
I enjoy the freedom of shadow.
In the dregs, its taste,
removes something from the bitterness of darkness that fosters
its existence
Now.
I must paint my face again!
